Story of a transgender Rickshaw Driver
When I was growing up and my parents realized that I am a transgender, the behaviour of males changed immediately. They wanted to give me away to the transgender community and at first I thought maybe that was for the best. But then I came back for my mother and sisters. Now I teach dance classes for children and professionals in morning. At night, I drive a rickshaw for a few hours. I do both of these jobs because I don’t want to go down the wrong path like prostitution. I don’t have any education so I am using the skills I do have. Luckily, I don’t have any serious problems. I live with my mother and sisters. They accept me and are dependent on me. Other transgenders I know do try to force me to do all kinds of odd jobs but I know what is right and what is wrong. I think we make our own life through our decisions. I want to make the right decisions.
