Basant Festival Lahore(Basant in Lahore) 2019:
Fayyazul Hassan Chohan Provincial Minister for Information on Tuesday said that the Punjab government has decided to celebrate Basant in Lahore in second week of Feb 2019. He said that the Basant is a cultural festival of Lahore. The minister said that the cultural circles of Lahore had been asking to celebrate Basant festival. ” The festival creates enormous economic activity and is a source of promoting tourism.”
The Basant Kite Festival has been a historic spring time kite flying event during the Basant Panchami festival in the Punjab region in India and Pakistan. Amritsar, Lahore, and Kasur are the traditional areas where kite flying festivals are held in subcontinent . The ban on kite flying around the festival period in Pakistan imposed due to use of dangerous, life-threatening substances in the strings.

Punjab govt’s decision to celebrate Basant challenged in Lahore High Court:
The petitioner, Advocate Safdar Shahin Pirzada contended that the government was diverting attention of the people from actual issues through such tactics. This festival might cause loss of more innocent lives if it is celebrated .
